Morning In The Hudson | Haverstraw Bay

The single best way to improve and learn is to do studies of the great Masters of art. This is my study of Sanford Giffords "Morning on the Hudson, Haverstraw Bay".

Gifford painted two versions both from 1866 sketches made in September near Ossining, New York. The work depicts a serene early-morning scene on Haverstraw Bay, a widening of the Hudson River about 40 miles north of New York City — the cradle of the Hudson River School.
